Position Description
Currently we are seeking a dynamic, career oriented professional to join our IT Department as a Database Administrator supporting Oracle on Unix. The position is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, designing, performance tuning and maintaining Oracle databases on Linux and AIX platforms. In addition, this position will also have responsibility for some support of data modeling initiatives for the application development teams. The position will be responsible for business critical database applications and will work with the Director of IT to set technical strategy, process and controls of DBA initiatives.
Position Responsibilities:
Designing, implementing and monitoring database functionality to ensure stable environments.
Performing database administration and management activities in a safe, recoverable and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of all database environments.
Develop physical database design and create databases focusing on a modular, flexible, scaled design which will meet current and future needs.
Upholding enterprise policy guidelines and recommending new and improved guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users.
Maintaining security according to best practices and generating security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements.
Performing capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in collaboration with development resources, system administrators and system architects.
Perform on going monitoring and tuning of database instances as well as quality assurance reviews on database changes.
Staying abreast of the most current releases of the RDMBS software, including compatibility issues with operating systems, third party software and utilities.
Maintaining up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities and test as required.
Participating in 24x7 on call rotation.
Selection Criteria:
Bachelors degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent
Minimum 5 years experience supporting Oracle databases in high availability Unix environments.
Knowledge of database backup and recovery methods and tools
Understanding of data modeling and database design Experience with Erwin modeling software.
Must have the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of multiple application areas.
Understanding of data security and data integrity
Understanding of data, metadata and control structures
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired but not required:
o Oracle RAC exposure or experience
o Oracle DataGuard exposure or experience
o Oracle Grid Control exposure or experience
o PL/SQL exposure or experience
o SQL Server 2000 or 2005 exposure or experience
